What are camping modules?

Camping modules are modular systems that can be installed in your vehicle in just a few minutes and contain everything you need for a camping trip.

The base is a kitchen box or a sleeping system that you can temporarily slide into the trunk.

This means you can transform your vehicle into a small RV at any time and without making major modifications, and then later, you can turn it back into your everyday car.

Camping modules are often tailored to different vehicle types, such as van-based MPVs or vans. Depending on the module, they can offer different functions: some have integrated cookers or water tanks — everything a camper could ever want!

What makes camping modules so practical?

No matter whether you are an experienced camper or a complete beginner, with camping modules, you can transform your car into a temporary camping vehicle without much prior knowledge.

When everyday life calls again, the modules can be quickly removed and stored at home until your next vacation.

  • Mobile and flexible
  • Cheap alternative (especially compared to a new RV)
  • Space-saving
  • Quick installation and removal (often without tools)
  • Often reusable (e.g. after changing vehicles)
  • Expandable
  • Multifunctional (such as our travel tiger modules )

This means for all people who own their own car and want to get into vanlife: There are several reasons to consider purchasing suitable camping modules instead of buying a recreational vehicle.

For which vehicles are camping modules available?

These days, there are camping modules available for almost all vehicle types. The Volkswagen Transporter minibus and vans produced by Mercedes, Ford, and Toyota are particularly popular. There is a wide variety of modules available especially for this vehicle size.

But there is also a smaller variant, the so-called mini camper or micro camper. The demand for modules for compact cars, SUVs and especially van-based MPVs such as the Volkswagen Caddy is also on the rise.

What types of camping modules are there?

As mentioned above, there are a few basic modules that can transform your car into a camper in no time. For those who want to go one step further, here is a short planning guide to help you make a decision before making a purchase. (Article is currently only available in German.)

Sleeping Systems

Sleeping systems usually consist of a combination of bed frame, a slatted frame, and a mattress, in order to provide as much comfort as possible.

Our camping bed is lightweight and was designed primarily for van-based MPVs. It can be set up over the folded-down rear seats in just a few minutes without any tools. When you're done setting it up, you'll have a 200 cm x 110 cm bed.

Cooking Systems

Kitchen modules usually have a hob with 1-2 burners and a sink. Occasionally there is storage space for a small refrigerator and a work surface.

In most camper conversion modules, the kitchen is located in the trunk of the vehicle and is pulled out when in use. But we swear by a mobile camping kitchen, so that you have lots of flexibility when cooking. We have summarized the advantages and disadvantages of both options for you. (Article is currently only available in German.)

The individual elements — such as the sink, stove and worktop — can be arranged however you want.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between camping modules and camping boxes?

Both terms refer to a system that you can put in your car to turn it into a mini recreational vehicle temporarily. As their names suggest: modules are very flexible and can be combined in a modular way, while a camping box is a compact, self-contained box. In principle, they're the same solution, just in different formats.
